Edith Kern

Edith Kern (1912–2005) was a German-born American author, scholar, and professor emerita of Romance languages and comparative literature at Smith College. She was one of the first scholars to write a scholarly article on Samuel Beckett in the United States and held significant roles in the Modern Language Association, including serving as its national Vice President. Her academic career included positions at Johns Hopkins University, the University of Washington, and visiting appointments at Stanford, UC, and the University of Warwick.
