Eça de Queirós was a Portuguese novelist and diplomat, a leading figure in 19th-century literary realism. His works, such as 'The Crime of Father Amaro' and 'The Maias', critically examine Portuguese society with irony and social commentary. He is considered one of the greatest Portuguese writers.
