E. Thomas Garman
E. Thomas Garman (Tom) was a distinguished author and academic in personal finance and consumer economics, serving as a professor emeritus at Virginia Tech with a 37-year teaching career.[1][2] He authored influential books such as 'Personal Finance' and 'Consumer Economic Issues in America,' and developed the widely used 'Personal Financial Wellness' scale adopted by over 500 researchers globally.[2][3] Garman passed away peacefully at home in The Villages, Florida, on February 17, 2024, after enjoying 23 years of retirement.[1][2]
