E. K. Blum

Edward K. Blum was a prominent mathematician and computer scientist who developed the CAJAL programming language and contributed to numerical analysis, dynamical systems, and neural networks. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 1, 1923, he earned a B.S. from Cooper Union in 1944 and a Ph.D. from Columbia University, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and held faculty positions at institutions including USC Dornsife, where he joined in 1966 and helped establish the Center for Applied Mathematical Sciences.
