E J (Edmund James) 1850-1924 Peck
Edmund James Peck (1850–1924), known in Inuktitut as Uqammaq, was an Anglican missionary in the Canadian North who worked on the Quebec coast of Hudson Bay and on Baffin Island. He founded the first permanent mission on Baffin Island and was a major contributor to the development of Inuktitut syllabics and an English-Inuktitut dictionary. He also produced journals, ethnographic notes, and other writings about Inuit life and language.
