E. Carmichael

Amy Beatrice Carmichael was an Irish Christian missionary who served in India for 55 years without furlough, founding the Dohnavur Fellowship orphanage to rescue children from temple prostitution and neglect. Born into a devout Presbyterian family in Belfast, she was influenced by the Keswick movement and began her missionary work in Japan, China, Ceylon, and finally South India in 1895. Known as 'Amma' (mother) to hundreds of children, she authored 35 books on her experiences and died at Dohnavur in 1951.
