Doris M Stone

Doris Zemurray Stone (1909–1994) was an American archaeologist and ethnographer specializing in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica and the Intermediate Area of lower Central America. She served as director of the National Museum of Costa Rica, worked with Tulane University's Middle American Research Institute, and co-founded the Stone Center for Latin American Studies with her husband Roger Thayer Stone. She endowed numerous professorial chairs in U.S. universities and received international honors including honorary degrees and recognition equivalent to knighthoods from France, Panama, and Honduras.
