Donald S. Lopez Jr.

Donald S. Lopez Jr. (born 1952) is an American scholar of Buddhism and the Arthur E. Link Distinguished University Professor of Buddhist and Tibetan Studies at the University of Michigan.[1][2] Born in Washington, D.C., to U.S. Air Force pilot and Smithsonian official Donald Lopez, he earned his B.A. (Hons) in Religious Studies (1974), M.A. in Buddhist Studies (1977), and Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies (1982) from the University of Virginia.[1][4] He is married to Religious Studies scholar Tomoko Masuzawa and resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan; his notable works include *The Princeton Dictionary of Buddhism*, *The Tibetan Book of the Dead: A Biography*, and *The Buddha: Biography of a Myth*.[1][2][3]
