Donald Graves
Donald H. Graves was a pioneering educator and author in literacy education, renowned as the father of the process approach to writing, who revolutionized writing instruction by emphasizing children's natural needs and interests over mandates. He conducted groundbreaking research at Atkinson Academy in the 1970s, leading to his seminal 1983 book 'Writing: Teachers & Children at Work,' and authored 26 books while founding the Writing Process Laboratory at the University of New Hampshire. Graves taught elementary school, served as a principal, and was Professor Emeritus at UNH until his retirement in 1992.
