Donald Goines
Donald Goines was an influential African-American author known for his gritty urban fiction and crime novels that vividly captured the harsh realities of street life, addiction, and poverty in Detroit. Born into a middle-class family, he turned to crime and heroin addiction after military service, eventually writing over a dozen novels under the pseudonym Al C. Clark before being murdered in 1974 at age 37. His work is widely credited as a foundational influence on gangsta rap and modern street literature.
