Donald Crews (Author, Illustrator)
Donald Crews is an American author and illustrator of children's picture books, born on August 30, 1938, in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in the greater New York City area.[1][2] He graduated from Cooper Union in 1959, served in the U.S. Army in Germany, and is renowned for innovative books like Freight Train (Caldecott Honor, 1978) and Truck (Caldecott Honor, 1980), earning the Children's Literature Legacy Award in 2015.[1][4] Married to author Ann Jonas, he lives in New York's Hudson River Valley and is the father of illustrator Nina Crews.[6]
