Dimitri Shostakovich

Dmitri Shostakovich (1906–1975) was a Soviet-era Russian composer and pianist, widely regarded as one of the most important musical figures of the 20th century. He is especially known for his 15 symphonies and 15 string quartets, works that reflect both his extraordinary originality and the pressures of life under Soviet rule.
