Dick King-Smith was the pen name of Ronald Gordon King-Smith, an English children's author best known for *The Sheep-Pig* (*Babe: The Gallant Pig*), which inspired the film *Babe*. Before becoming a full-time writer, he worked as a soldier, farmer, and primary school teacher, and he published many animal-centered books later in life.[1][4]
