Dervla Murphy
Dervla Murphy was an Irish touring cyclist and celebrated travel writer who authored adventure books for over 50 years, best known for her 1965 classic 'Full Tilt: Ireland to India with a Bicycle' detailing her overland cycling journey through Europe, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. Born in Lismore, County Waterford, she spent much of her early life caring for her chronically ill mother, which gave her time to read and plan her daring expeditions across thirty countries. She died in 2022 at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy as one of Ireland's premier female travel writers.
