Dennis Altman

Dennis Patkin Altman AM (born 1943) is an Australian academic, writer, and prominent gay rights activist, best known for his influential 1971 book *Homosexual: Oppression and Liberation*, which shaped gay liberation movements. He is a Professorial Fellow at La Trobe University in Melbourne, has published numerous books on social issues, sexuality, and politics, and was named one of the 100 most influential Australians by *The Bulletin* in 2006 and appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2008.
