Denis Cosgrove

Denis Edmund Cosgrove (1948-2008) was a pre-eminent British cultural and historical geographer known for his innovative studies on landscape, geographical imagination, and the interplay between material environments and cultural representations.[3][4] He taught at institutions including Oxford Polytechnic, Loughborough University, Royal Holloway, University of London, and UCLA, where he served as Alexander von Humboldt Professor of Geography, and co-founded the journal Ecumene (now Cultural Geographies).[1][2][5] His influential books include The Iconography of Landscape (1988, co-edited), The Palladian Landscape (1993), and Apollo's Eye (2001).[2][5]
