Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade, was a French writer, libertine, political activist, and nobleman best known for his erotic novels exploring extreme sexuality and philosophy. He spent much of his life imprisoned for sex crimes, blasphemy, and pornography. His works, including 'Justine' and '120 Days of Sodom,' influenced the term 'sadism'.
