David Norman SMITH

David Norman Smith is a professor of sociology at the University of Kansas, where he has taught since 1990 after earning a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988 and an A.B. in economics from UC Berkeley in 1974. His research intersects political sociology, political psychology, and political economy, with publications on topics including Marx's Capital (illustrated edition), Orwell, Trumpism, capitalism, authoritarianism, and sweatshops in journals like Sociological Theory and Critical Sociology. A seasoned activist, he was named Public Citizen of the Year in 2004 for his role in Lawrence's living wage campaign and is currently editing Marx's World for Yale University Press.
