David L. Weitzman (Author, Illustrator)

David L. Weitzman, born in 1936, is an American author and illustrator renowned for his children's and young adult books on industrial history and technology, featuring hyper-detailed ink drawings resembling steel-plate lithographs. Growing up in Chicago, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and later earned degrees in history, before moving to Covelo, California, in the 1970s to write and illustrate books about steam locomotives, foundries, windmills, bridges, and subways. His works, such as Superpower, Thrashin' Time, and Locomotive: Building an Eight-wheeler, have been highly praised for their historical accuracy and artistry, with exhibitions and ongoing teaching as of 2022.
