David Hernandez

David Hernandez was a Puerto Rican-born poet and educator who moved to Chicago as a child and became a central figure in the city’s Latino literary movement. He was often called Chicago’s unofficial poet laureate, founded the poetry-music group Street Sounds, and was honored for his work with awards and a Chicago Literary Hall of Fame induction.
