David Caplan

David Caplan is a poet, critic, and professor of English literature, currently holding the Daisy Deane Frensley Chair at Southern Methodist University and previously the Charles M. Weis Chair at Ohio Wesleyan University. He is the author of poetry collections such as In the World He Created According to His Will (2010) and Into My Garden (2020), as well as critical works including Rhyme’s Challenge: Hip Hop, Poetry, and Contemporary Rhyming Culture (2014) and American Poetry: A Very Short Introduction (2021). His honors include the 2012 Emily Clark Balch Prize for Poetry from the Virginia Quarterly Review for his sequence 'Observances,' and he has held Fulbright lectureships and serves as a contributing editor to Pleiades and Virginia Quarterly Review.
