David C. Berliner (1938–2025) was an American educational psychologist and Regents' Professor Emeritus at Arizona State University who became a leading public intellectual defending public education against policy decisions unsupported by research. He authored over 400 articles, books, and chapters, with his most influential work being The Manufactured Crisis (1996), which challenged narratives of educational failure and exposed how claims of widespread school collapse were often politically constructed.
