Daniel Chavarría
Daniel Edmundo Chavarría Bastélica was a Uruguayan writer, translator, and professor who resided in Cuba from 1969 until his death, where he taught Latin, Greek, and classical literature at the University of Havana and supported the Cuban Revolution. He was a prolific novelist known for political adventure novels, historical fiction, and picaresque stories, earning prestigious awards including the Cuban National Literature Prize in 2010 and the Edgar Allan Poe Award in 2002. Polyglot fluent in five languages, he also worked as a screenwriter for film and television and translator of German literature.
