Daniel Carter Beard
Daniel Carter Beard (1850–1941), known as “Uncle Dan,” was an American illustrator, author, and youth leader who helped pioneer the scouting movement in the United States. He founded the Sons of Daniel Boone in 1905, which later merged into the Boy Scouts of America, and he also illustrated works by Mark Twain.[1][3][13]
