Clyde Edgerton

Clyde Edgerton, born in 1944 in Bethesda near Durham, North Carolina, served as an Air Force fighter pilot during the Vietnam era before earning a Ph.D. from UNC Chapel Hill and becoming a prolific author of ten novels, a memoir, essays, and short stories known for their humorous takes on Southern culture.[1][2][3][5] Inspired by Eudora Welty, he began his writing career in 1978, received accolades including a Guggenheim Fellowship and induction into the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame in 2016, and retired as a creative writing professor at UNC Wilmington in 2024.[2][3][4]
