Clement Clarke Moore (1779–1863) was an American writer, scholar, and real estate developer best known as the author of the iconic Christmas poem 'A Visit from St. Nicholas,' also known as 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.' He was a professor of Oriental and Greek literature at the General Theological Seminary in New York City from 1823 to 1850 and made significant contributions to Hebrew lexicography with his two-volume 'A Compendious Lexicon of the Hebrew Language.'
