Claire Weekes

Hazel Claire Weekes (1903-1990) was an Australian general practitioner, zoologist, and pioneering health writer known for her groundbreaking work on anxiety treatment. She earned a Doctorate of Science in zoology from the University of Sydney in 1930 as the first woman to do so, later studied medicine, graduating in 1945, and became a general practitioner specializing in nervous disorders. Her bestselling books, such as *Self Help for Your Nerves* (1962), revolutionized anxiety management by distinguishing it from mental illness and introducing concepts like 'floating' through fear.
