Christopher Shackle

Christopher Shackle is an Emeritus Professor of Modern Languages of South Asia at SOAS, University of London, where he studied Persian and Turkish at Oxford and joined the Department in 1966, becoming Professor in 1985 before retiring in 2007.[1][3][4] He has served as Head of the Urdu Department, Pro-Director of SOAS from 1997 to 2003, and is a Fellow of the British Academy with qualifications including BA, Dip Soc Anth, BLitt (Oxon), and PhD (London).[1][4] His research focuses on Punjabi and Urdu literature, including projects on Punjabi Sufi poetry and a history of Punjabi literature.[1][5]
