Christopher Paul Curtis

Christopher Paul Curtis, born in Flint, Michigan, worked for 13 years on a General Motors assembly line before becoming a celebrated children's author. His debut novel, The Watsons Go to Birmingham—1963 (1995), earned a Newbery Honor and Coretta Scott King Honor, while his second book, Bud, Not Buddy (1999), made him the first to win both the Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Award. Known for historical fiction blending humor with themes of racism, poverty, and African American experiences, his works are widely taught in schools.
