Chester S Chard

Chester S. Chard (1915–2002) was an American anthropologist known for helping establish circumpolar, or arctic, anthropology through collaborations with Russian and Japanese scholars. He taught for more than 20 years, mainly at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, founded the journal *Arctic Anthropology* in 1962, and published extensively on the prehistory and cultures of North Asia and the circumpolar world.
