Charles G Halpine

Charles G. Halpine (1829–1868), also known by the pseudonym Miles O'Reilly, was an Irish journalist, poet, and Union soldier who served during the American Civil War. Born in Oldcastle, County Meath, Ireland, he immigrated to the United States in 1851 and became a well-known writer recognized for his odes, sonnets, and lyrical effusions. He died suddenly at age 38 in New York City from an accidental chloroform overdose while treating alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
