Catherine MacFarlane 1879-1946 Carswell
Catherine Roxburgh Carswell (née Macfarlane; 1879–1946) was a Scottish author, biographer, journalist, and novelist, recognized as one of the few women in the Scottish Renaissance. Born in Glasgow to a religious family, she wrote controversial biographies of Robert Burns and D.H. Lawrence, and novels like Open the Door! (1920) and The Camomile (1922) set in Edwardian Glasgow, which gained later recognition for their feminist themes. She died in Oxford after pneumonia.
