Carlos Manuel Álvarez

Carlos Manuel Álvarez is a Cuban writer, journalist, and editor born in Matanzas in 1989, who studied journalism at the University of Havana and founded the independent magazine El Estornudo in 2016. He has published novels such as The Fallen (Los caídos) and Falsa guerra, along with journalistic collections like The Tribe (La tribu), and his work has appeared in outlets including The New York Times, El País, and Granta. Living in exile in New York after facing repression in Cuba, he has received awards including the Anagrama Chronicle Prize and the Prix Carbet de la Caraïbe et du Tout-Monde.
