Carl Hiaasen
Carl Hiaasen is an American journalist and novelist born on March 12, 1953, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who began his career as a reporter for The Miami Herald in 1976 and wrote a syndicated opinion column from 1985 to 2021.[1][2][4] He started writing novels in the early 1980s, collaborating initially with William D. Montalbano on mystery thrillers before publishing his first solo novel, Tourist Season, in 1986, with many works set in Florida satirizing corruption and environmental issues.[1][2] Hiaasen has authored numerous adult novels, middle-grade books like Hoot, and nonfiction, with several adapted into films and TV series.[1][4][5]
