C. P. Cavafy

C. P. Cavafy (Konstantinos Petrou Kavafis) was a distinguished Greek poet, journalist, and civil servant from Alexandria, Egypt, widely regarded as the greatest modern Greek poet of the 20th century. Born in Alexandria in 1863 to Constantinopolitan parents, he lived most of his life in Egypt, self-publishing his meticulously revised poems while working as a clerk in the Egyptian Irrigation Office. He died on his 70th birthday in 1933 from cancer of the larynx.
