by Nicolas Fernandez de Moratin

Nicolás Fernández de Moratín (1737–1780) was a Spanish poet, prose writer, and playwright who sought to reform Spanish literature by drawing on French classicism. Father of the renowned neoclassical dramatist Leandro Fernández de Moratín, he wrote works such as 'La Petimetra' (1762), 'Arte de las putas', and 'Desengaños al teatro español', criticizing 17th-century Spanish drama. He was a member of the Tertulia de la Fonda de San Sebastián and influenced his son's literary career.
