Booker T Washington

Washington was a pioneering African American educator, reformer, and the founding principal of Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute (now Tuskegee University), where he championed Black progress through education and entrepreneurship. Born into slavery in Virginia, he became the most influential spokesman for Black Americans between 1895 and 1915, advocating economic self-sufficiency over direct political confrontation with Jim Crow segregation.
