Betty Sampson
Betty Sampson was a pioneering civil rights activist and educator who founded the first NAACP chapter in Maine and played a critical role in advancing racial equality and women's education. She served as a leader in various civic organizations, including the League of Women Voters and the Maine Civil Liberties Union, and contributed to President Harry Truman's decision to desegregate the armed forces.
