Bernard Comrie (Editor)
Bernard Comrie is a distinguished British-born linguist and Research Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Santa Barbara, specializing in language universals, linguistic typology, historical linguistics, and languages of the Caucasus and New Guinea. He earned his PhD in Linguistics from the University of Cambridge in 1972, taught at institutions including the University of Southern California, and served as Director of the Department of Linguistics at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig. Comrie is renowned for his influential works on tense-aspect systems, causative constructions, and cross-linguistic typology, and was awarded the Neil & Saras Smith Medal by the British Academy in 2017.
