Audrey Penn

Audrey Penn is an American children's author best known for her picture book The Kissing Hand, featuring anthropomorphic raccoons. She began her career as a professional ballerina with companies including the National Ballet, New York City Ballet, and Stuttgart Ballet, and also served as alignist and choreographer for U.S. Figure Skating and Gymnastics teams. In 1980, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis ended her dance career, leading her to writing children's books, a passion rooted in her early journaling and love for children's literature.
