Athena Aktipis

Christina Athena Aktipis is an associate professor of psychology at Arizona State University and a cooperation theorist who works at the intersection of evolutionary biology, evolutionary psychology, and cancer biology. She is the author of the books The Cheating Cell: How Evolution Helps Us Understand and Treat Cancer (2020) and A Field Guide to the Apocalypse: A Mostly Serious Guide to Surviving Our Wild Times (2024). Aktipis directs the Cooperation and Conflict Lab and the Interdisciplinary Cooperation Initiative, and she is a prolific science communicator with writing in Scientific American and Slate.
