Arnold I. Goldberg
Arnold I. Goldberg (1929–2020) was a pioneering American psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, best known as a foundational figure in self psychology and for his nuanced reconceptualization of perversion as a defensive strategy against psychic fragmentation. He served as the Cynthia Oudejan Harris Professor of Psychiatry at Rush Medical College in Chicago and was a prolific author of over 40 books and journals exploring empathy, character disorders, and psychoanalytic theory.
