Aristide R. Zolberg

Aristide R. Zolberg (1931–2013) was an American political scientist and a pre-eminent scholar of comparative politics, international migration, nationalism, and ethnicity. Born in Brussels, he survived Nazi persecution, emigrated to the United States in 1948, and later taught at the University of Wisconsin, the University of Chicago, and the New School for Social Research, where he served as Walter A. Eberstadt Professor of Politics. He is best known for his magnum opus, *A Nation by Design*, and for founding the International Center for Migration, Ethnicity, and Citizenship.
