Antonio Pietrangeli
Antonio Pietrangeli (1919–1968) was an Italian film director and screenwriter, renowned as a major practitioner of commedia all'italiana, blending neorealism's moral urgency with satire to explore women's roles in Italy's transition from agrarian to industrial society.[1][2] Born in Rome, he studied medicine but became a film critic, coining 'neorealism' and assisting on films like Visconti's Ossessione before directing features such as I Knew Her Well, for which he won a Nastro d'Argento.[1][4] He drowned accidentally in the Gulf of Gaeta at age 49 while working on his final film.[1][2]
