Ann Grifalconi
Ann Grifalconi (1929–2020) was an American author and illustrator of children's books, known for introducing young readers to life in other cultures, particularly through stories set in Cameroon, Africa. She earned a Certificate of Art from The Cooper Union in 1950, worked in advertising, taught art at the High School of Fashion Industries, and from 1965 became a full-time illustrator, receiving awards including a 1966 Newbery Honor for 'The Jazz Man,' a 1983 Coretta Scott King Award for 'Everett Anderson's Goodbye,' and a 1987 Caldecott Honor for 'The Village of Round and Square Houses.'
