Andrew Engel
Dr. Andrew G. Engel (1930-2024) was a pioneering neuromuscular clinician, educator, and researcher, renowned for identifying several congenital myopathies and advancing understanding of muscle disease pathomechanisms through ultrastructural analysis. Born in Budapest, Hungary, he immigrated to the United States as a teen, earned his MD from McGill University in 1955, and trained at the Mayo Clinic and Columbia University. He authored over 350 peer-reviewed papers, edited the seminal text 'Myology: Basic and Clinical,' and received numerous awards, including the World Federation of Neurology's Lifetime Achievement Award.
