Herbert Bayer (1900–1985) was an Austrian-American graphic designer, painter, photographer, sculptor, architect, and polymath associated with the Bauhaus, where he studied, taught typography and graphic design, and became a leading figure in modern design. After emigrating to the United States in 1938, he worked as a design consultant for the Container Corporation of America, contributed to the Aspen Institute's campus including the Grass Mound earthwork, and influenced corporate art collections until his death.
