Amédée Ozenfant

Amédée Ozenfant (1886–1966) was a French painter, writer, and theoretician best known as a pioneer of the modern art movement and co-founder of Purism alongside Le Corbusier, with whom he published the manifesto Après le Cubisme in 1918 and co-edited the revue L’Esprit Nouveau from 1920 to 1925. Initially influenced by Cubism and associated with artists like Picasso and Matisse, he transitioned to Purism after World War I, emphasizing simplified forms and geometric precision. Ozenfant taught at academies in Paris, London, and New York, authored influential books on art theory, and later painted purified landscapes and architectures.
