Alexei Navalny
Alexei Navalny was a Russian opposition leader, lawyer, anti-corruption activist, and founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, known for exposing corruption among high-ranking officials and challenging Vladimir Putin's regime. He gained fame for calling United Russia the 'party of crooks and thieves' and organizing protests, despite multiple imprisonments and a near-fatal poisoning in 2020. Navalny died in an Arctic penal colony on February 16, 2024, after receiving harsh sentences on charges widely regarded as politically motivated.
