Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman was an acclaimed English actor known for his distinctive deep voice and versatile performances in stage, film, and television. He began his career in graphic design before training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and joining the Royal Shakespeare Company, achieving breakthrough success with his Tony-nominated role as Valmont in Les Liaisons Dangereuses and as Hans Gruber in Die Hard (1988).[1][2][5] Renowned for villainous roles like the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, he also earned Emmy and Golden Globe awards for Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny (1996).[2][4][5]
